Hi guys,

Is it just me and my PC or you cannot rate pictures as well? I rated and commented a number of recent HDRs today, but I just keep hitting the button to post it but nothing happens. This way I would like to apologize if you would have a number of the same comment there.

Cheers,

Peter

Peter, we have changed the email server and this has broken these things. It should be fixed now.

Its funny…I heard from someone on hdrcreme that the trick to getting photo of the week is by when you post so that people in other countries see it first. That means that the photo is that is picked for photo of the day is not necessarily be the best photo but the one that is seen by more photographers…I have seen photos that are best of the day and aren’t and photos that should be best of the week and they are not even close to being best of the day.

Thats just not right. Its just knowledge of how the system works to beat it….Not right !

Picture of the day, week and month are always generated at 00.00am CET.
Obviously we had to choose a unique time for all to generate these charts. Do you have a better idea? If you do, post it along with your criticism, so it can be something constructive, instead of a simple denunciation of what you think is wrong.

Carlo, I see everybody believes that this is still a photo competition. When it should really be a forum to showcase the merits, beauty, and creativity of HDR. If people insist into turning this into a contest everyday, week, and month. How about a simple system of a up or down vote. The most up votes win. Comments could be optional. Your vote hidden very much like in our political elections. Just a thought. Too much animosity for such a neat site. Just a thought.

@larsen-photo-works: That’s funny your are saying anonymous vote. This has been the most criticize feature from the first website version. By the way I agree with you. Charts are meant just for fun.

Trns bskolb 2 post(s)

Fun or not, it’s extremely frustrating when one particular user can throw around insults, no real criticism and “1” bombs which do not coincide with earlier votes of 8+; especially when said people are not “Creme” members and have little or NO portfolio photos at all.

I seem to recall a method of grading where the 1 highest and 1 lowest was removed before calculations, to avoid the random “mistake” from actually penalizing the “reaL” grade. Imho.

Small_user_default peter 18 post(s)

Well, I have to agree with bskolb and I think I know which “user” he means… I do not mind criticism but it looks a bit odd from a person with 3 or no photos in portfolio. And rate pictures as “1” it is just sad I think.

What I would do is to let the system select the highest rated photo for past 24 hours with the highest number of ratings. That should give pretty good idea of the photo quality.

To be honest, I think most of us here are a community and I find healthy criticism very useful from yo guys and I welcome it everytime it comes my way. I just don’t like mean people, that’s all.

i know who and what bskolb and peter are talking about cause i too have the same problem with this person and i think it is just plain rude. i am fairly new to the world of hdr and the whole reason i joined this site was to try and get good advice from the wonderful photographers on here. it was not to be criticized but some jerk that has 3 junk photos posted or to try and win some contest(all tho it was cool to have 1 pic of the day.)

guys, don’t take rating too serious.

Message to Carlo as administrator and all users:

I would like to suggest to BLOCK THE ABILITY TO VOTE and RATE HDRs of user “HDRDH”. The number of inappropriate comments and mean-minded guerilla ratings escalates things and creates a negative atmosphere on the site, I think. Every site/forum has an admin and all users are supposed to follow the basic rules of the site. If they do not want to – they can leave or should be banned, it is simple as that.

Hdrdh, you’re feedback is more than welcome here! Love me or hate me – I don’t care, just stop bothering other people who are doing their best to bring or capture something nice of this world and share it with other people.

All other users, please feel free to add your thoughts/voice here.

Thank you!

I agree with Peter. This member “hdrdh’” has trashed every image I have posted in the past two weeks. Always a “1”. If the image is only a “1” then Fine but at least explain why it is only a “1”. Not leave some message like this is “Trash, Garbage” etc. How can it be a “1” when other members leave “8’s, 9’s or 10’s”? Are those members STUPID and hdrdh that much smarter? I think NOT! Is this member the return of "EMOS’ or even worse? Thanks for the support of several members who actually commented on my recent post “Spillway”. Much Appreciated! Digi

NETWORKING, only certain people vote on certain peoples post. that’s what i discover here, and when you go public with your work you have to be prepared that some people like what you do while others not. relax and go on, something like that happend to me a while ago and i was about to start a war. it is not worst it.

Small_user_default degsy 33 post(s)

Jorg. While I agree with most of what you say I don’t think trashing someone’s work for the sake of it achieves anything.
If a vote of 1 is registered then I think it is good practise to say why this mark was recorded. If one of my images is deemed to be
rubbish that’s fine just tell me why. Only then can I learn and improve. It seems that some members have got on the wrong side of this poster
and receive a low vote regardless of the posted image. This is neither adult or mature and should be stopped.

Case in Point: Take a look at what so call resident expert “HDRDH” rated Bob1140’s image of “Inside the VooDoo Mart”. Are we as a Community going to put up with such a childish mean spirited member such a this. If you say NO then contact Carlo my mail and ask him to rid this parasite from the CREME as he did with “Emos”. As long as this member continues to give members a "1’ on images I will return the Favor. Anyone else care to voice an opinion on this matter?

I understand, but soon there will be another one……..

It would appear that this users has removed his images and cleared all comments from his wall.
Perhaps he has packed up and left. I see no reason why he should go all he has to do is integrate into the site.
He may well discover that it is an ideal way of improving the quality of his work as I am sure most of us on here have.

In response to Hdrdh. Can his account still be deleted? I wouldn’t want him to come back. He needs to find a different outlet for his anger.

Hdrdh uses a new technique: note 10 all photos … Sad

Small_user_default peter 18 post(s)

I noticed, but decided to ignore the whole rating thing. I really value any feedback/ratings from users with a portfolio and some photography skills – feedback from those people is good enough for me. And the rest can be ignored. :)

Avatar jlc81400 2 post(s)

I agree with you Peter, but it is still sad that kind of behavior ….

Some solutions:

1. The solution to the problem of postings not being posted early enough for people in other countries to rate them is to have each photo count for the day that’s 23 hours and 59 minutes after it was posted. This way no photo can be voted “best of the day” until it’s been on the site for a day. So you’d have “Yesterday’s photo of the day.” That would be the fair way to do it.

2. To the problem of 1 bombs, which frankly, is the reason that I left this site last year, just make it a requirement that only people with, say, 6 photos posted are allowed to vote on images. If you haven’t posted anything, you can’t vote. What is the value for users of letting people with no posted photos vote on the photos of others? In my opinion, if you aren’t a photographer who’s willing to post photos, you should be able to create an account but not be able to use any of the site’s functions, including messaging, forums, comments, or voting. Once the user has uploaded the required number of photos, they should then be allowed to use all the site’s features.

Since people who pay to use the site are likely to be serious, you could also set it up so that only Creme Plus member can vote, but in the current economy, that’s probably not a good idea. The other solution to malicious users is to have the site look for people who give out large amounts of very low ratings and don’t leave comments. Their accounts could be suspended. The easiest solution is to eliminate anonymous voting, combined with requiring a specific number of postings before allowing voting/commenting.
