- You are allowed to vote only 1 picture.

Little suggestions to win POTD:
- Post early, so your picture have more chance to be seen by other users.
- Comment, like, favourite other pictures. This will increase the chance other users will vote your pictures or give you tips about how to improve your works.
- Have fun. There is no cash price or money involved in POTD. So try enjoy the competition and don't get angry if you don't win, you have a chance every day!
While I respect Carlo's 3 step procedure to create a POTD and Truly Wish it would work without Hiccups I still see problems within this New Voting System.
I suggest to simplify the Voting even more and DO AWAY with "LIKES and FAVORITES" Altogether.
In time "LIKES and FAVORITES" will only cause dissension, argument and disagreements among members Once again. Voting among Public Eyes is what caused so many problems with the Old Voting System. "Likes and Favorites" will now become the Focal Point more so in Voting than the Anonymous POTD Vote.
It has already caused a fight between Graham (Inkslinger) and Leo (pandarino). Graham accused of Cheating which he clearly did nothing wrong.
Simple: Only have Anonymous Voting for POTD.....if there is a Tie.....Winner goes to MOST RECENTLY Posted. Said and Done.
This way NO One knows who voted for what image. How can you have Arguments or Disagreements over Voting if you DO NOT know who voted for what......SEE MY POINT.
Want this site to be where you can post your HDR images, enjoy others images without worrying about ..."OH, If I don't vote his or her image a Like or Favorite then they may not vote my Image a Like or Favorite? Same problem as the Old System. Voting in a Public Forum for ALL to see your Votes DOES NOT WORK FAIRLY...Never did....Never Will.
Starting today, I for One WILL NO LONGER VOTE "LIKES" or "FAVORITES" but I Will, if Allowed to VOTE, CAST MY (1) VOTE ON....... POTD only.
Please Voice Your Opinion as I am curious to know if anyone else agrees with my suggestion.
Totally agree with that points.
There's a risk to see new wars, just because of the names shown under "fav" and " like".
Maybe it'd be a very good thing to not know anything about people who click.
It can be cool to see a number of likes but the names make a new potential failure.
At this time, i can say who likes or don't like my pics :o))) That's not what i wanna see.
The more POTD clicks is the winning photo. I there's an equality, number of likes but no names, pliz pliz pliz....
Never forget that we're all young kids playing all day long!
1) just to make things clear, I respect Graham and he knows this (we are both in us strength on Flickr ...) I have not found sportingly speaking he took away 3 LIKE three photographers at 01:50. OK
2) for the voting system ..... even I am in favor of what he writes Ed. FAV LIKE and it generates a lot of confusion and some antipathy. Excellent anonymous vote only on POTD.
I also see that the new design has made us lose the dialogue, space for comment is too far from the images.
But perhaps I add that you should vote especially to the images and less friend at all costs just to duty.
I am in favor of having the POTD vote remain anonymous. I am also in favor of having the ability to click on the Favorite button with no weight. If someone really likes a picture enough to save it as a "Favorite" so they can view it later at their own leisure then that could be done anonymously.
I think with the current system there is room for people to for lack of manipulate the POTD outcome slightly. For example, if one person has a picture up that has been "liked" by a few 7 people and another picture maybe has only 5 "Like" then you might have a mentality of did I make the right choice? Maybe this other one IS better and change your vote to the other picture. Even though the POTD is anonymous it still might sway others to vote POTD on a pic just because another pic has more likes. (sorry if that last paragraph didn't make a lot of sense)
Anyway with all of that said it's obvious that the more public the vote the more possibility of manipulation wether intended or unintended.
I like the new system, agree with pixel_komando the likes and favorites can remain but with user anonymous to avoid misunderstandings and dislikes. Also agree with pandarino about the comments the new design is very cool but somehow does not stimulate to write comment or view the comments. Overall the new system and design has been very good upgrade.
I completely understand where Leo was/is coming from, he didn’t know/understand my reason for doing it.
If I saw what was happening I also would have been angry but I wasn’t doing it for personal gain i.e. POTD. It was for the fact I thought there was a possible flaw in the system from what I had noticed happen 3 weeks previous. In the end it didn’t really confirm or deny my suspicions.
I do miss the comments on images good or bad, as that was for me the interaction between everyone. Plus you could possibly learn something from these comments.
At the moment we all are getting used to a big change in the site, which we all asked for one way or the other. We all have our views of how we see things, someone asked me on Facebook last week what was my thoughts & I just said ‘one person done a lot of damage’ to the ‘Old Hdrcreme’ & it will take time for us to adapt to the ‘New Hdrcreme’. All we can do is thank Carlos for what he is doing, hope to see new people joining, (which I think is happening) & get some of our old members returning….
PLUS: Keep posting……. RESPECT to ALL….
Hello and thanks for your feedback.
Easiest correction to this voting system could be the one suggested by Ed (digicam), to skip point 2 and 3 in POTD selection.
Anyhow my main concern is to kill interaction. If favourites and likes are meaningless, what I think it will happen is, we will have less interaction with those actions.
As someone already pointed out, after the update, we have very few comments as for the "POTD selection" these are now irrelevant.
What if we just hide "who liked and favourited" the pictures in competition for the POTD and show them once the POTD has been selected? This way we can keep importance to these interactions and at the same time keep this anonymous just during the vote.
Thanks Carlo for understanding that there is still a Problem with the Voting as seeing other members have concerns with the System as well.
I still say SKIP Points 2 and 3 altogether. If members really wanted interaction among themselves concerning images there is still the Comment Box.
I use it almost daily. If another member does not take the time to comment on your image then it simply means they had nothing to say to begin with. I remember the Old System that when you Voted your Vote was part of the Comment Box. Sure there were those who would vote a Number and Type in the Same Number without Comment. But more times then NOT there was a Comment and Interaction concerning the post that was voted upon. Many times the Interaction was NOT FOR THE BETTER AS WELL.
However Leo was correct in saying the Comment Box is Too Far Down and should be within EYES View.
I still say as long as you have Voting (NAMES OF MEMBERS) VIEWED PUBLICLY DURING THE 24 HOUR PERIOD OR EVEN AFTER AS YOU SUGGEST ABOVE IT WILL STILL CAUSE PROBLEMS. The REASON being is that members are NOT just posting images for everyone to see but are Competing for a Prize....POTD. DO YOU REALLY THINK THERE WOULD BE CONTROVERSY IF NOTHING WAS AT STAKE HERE? REALLY? I THINK NOT.
Competing for a Prize is NO Different than someone who RUNS FOR POLITICAL OFFICE. You DO NOT GET TO SEE WHAT PERSON VOTES FOR EACH CANDIDATE . YOU ONLY GET TO SEE THE FINAL COUNT. SAME SHOULD BE HERE if you MUST have LIKES and FAVORITES.
MY FINAL SUGGESTION TO THIS MATTER IS IF YOU WANT TO KEEP THE "LIKES and FAVORITES" THEN MAKE THEM ANONYMOUS JUST AS POTD IS NOW. ONCE POTD IS CHOSEN THEN SHOW THE NUMBER (1,2,3,4...ETC), OF "LIKES and FAVORITES"......But NOT the Members Names.....ONLY THE FINAL NUMBER OF BOTH IS NEEDED. THE FACT OF THE MATTER IS NOT SO MUCH SEEING WHO VOTED FOR YOUR IMAGE BUT WHO DID NOT VOTE FOR YOUR IMAGE THAT will only cause DISSENSION, DISLIKE and EVEN LESS INTERACTION.
MY FINAL VOTE....DO AWAY WITH "LIKES and FAVORITES".
Have Blessed Weekend To All,
Thanks Charles for your commitment, also I see only confusion to the "FAV" you might as well keep this "FAV" but just to have a personal collection that you can review, make it no element involving the photo of the day. And I support the idea of having only one click on "POD" but also have the opportunity to express at least 2 or 3 votes POD, only one is too simplistic.
I'm reluctant to interject here, but I THINK everyone is now convinced that I am not Billyspad.
I favor eliminating the identity of Likes and Favs, as Ed suggested. Frankly, and I'm sure some of you feel the same,I like 90% of the photographs posted here. I've been doling out the LIKES left and right, and I admit, sometimes my LIKE might be repayment for someone liking my pics.... I am, however, much stingier with my FAVs.... I only Fav 2-3 images on any day....
So I make the following three suggestions:
1) Keep the current POTD process in place;
2) Eliminate LIKE altogether;
3) Keep FAVORITE (as one method for resolving POTD ties), but hide the voters' names.
4) We all agree to rein in our passions and temper our remarks.
Did I say 3....I meant 4.
