Valle Crucis Abbey - HDR Photo

Valle Crucis Abbey is in North East Wales, near Llangollen. Just as in the case of Tintern, the abbey was founded in a remote location particularly suitable for the Cistercian order. Valle Crucis was founded in 1201 but some rebuilding of the church was necessary after a mid 13th century fire.
Following the Dissolution of the Monasteries under Henry VIII, Valle Crucis gradually fell into decay. Fortunately, enough of the fabric remains to make it worth paying a visit
