Augustus was built from 23 BC an area
(125 m x 118) previously occupied by private residences
purchased with the profits of war. Placed perpendicular
larly with respect to the Forum of Caesar which was inspired by the no-
cap ital, was completed in 2 BC and over the se-
coli did not undergo any alterations except for a small restoration under
Hadrian.
