National Sanctuary of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, better known as Church of the Hill for the neighborhood where it is located (Hill of Victory).
Its design resembles the Sacré Cœur de Montmartre (Paris), but unlike it, the sanctuary is covered with brick, also inspired by the Hagia Sophia in Constantinople.
The foundation stone was laid in 1919, the Society of Architects of Uruguay receives several drafts, resulting selected Italian Salesian priest Ernesto Vespignani. The works of the first stage took place between 1926 and 1938.
