The church, from the artistic point of view, is an exaltation of France through the representation of its saints and its greatest historical figures. In front are the statues represented Charlemagne, St. Louis, St. Clotilde, St. Joan of Valois. Inside there are frescoes depicting the Apotheosis of Saint Louis and St. Denis and the story of the life of Clovis.
There are two places that contain real masterpieces of the seventeenth century. In the second chapel on the right there is the fresco of St. Cecilia by Domenichino stories (1616-17), while in the fifth chapel on the left (Chapel Contarelli) there are three absolute masterpieces of Caravaggio's Martyrdom of St. Matthew , St. Matthew and the Angel and the Calling of St. Matthew.
The church is also home to several tombs, including the tomb of Pauline de Beaumont, built by her lover, the Chateaubriand and the tomb of Cardinal Francois Joachim de Bernis, ambassador of King Louis XV and Louis XVI.

Wonderful. At first sight I thought the white balance was set too warm, until I saw the cool ambient light at the ceiling. Wonderful mood and the pools of light scattered about are delightful.
