The Passetto, or er Corridor (the Corridor), the village is located in Rome and is the name that takes the Vatican walls that stretch that links the Vatican to Castel Sant'Angelo. It was built dall'antipapa John XXIII (Baldassare Cossa) in the fifteenth century. The walls were in poor condition and in the restoration phase is thought to build a passage that would lead directly to the Castle from the Vatican. We wanted to allow the head of the Church of refuge in case of need within the Castle and at the same time have a stronghold that would allow better control of the district. In 1494 the Passetto allowed to Pope Alexander VI (Rodrigo Borgia) to retire to Castle during the invasion of Rome militia of Charles VIII of France. In 1527 Pope Clement VII (Giulio de 'Medici) he took refuge in the Castle, through the Passetto, during the Sack of Rome carried out by mercenaries of Charles V. In the year of Jubilee (2000), as was the case for other architectural works, Passetto was put back in operation today and you can visit by appointment only.

nteresting story. People give proportion to the immensity of the building. I think the frame would look better without the cypress of the Left.
