Most of my images I usually go for the very natural process, but have always wanted to try the surreal look.
I thought this image was a good one to try it out on, it is of the wife's work place at a school kitchen.
I do like to try different techniques from time to time, to hopefully improve on my HDR processing all round.

There is a lot of halos in there, but the idea is very good. I like the effect of color sparation

Bjorn, I can see where your confusion has come in thinking there are halos in this image, but it is a mixture of natural and enhanced light, using dodging and burning in certain areas.

The process is excellent on this, just the type that I really like.

Sorry Mitch, I do like the look, but I have tried the same wihtout burn/dogde, but it came out rather furios and rather nasty. Not as good as this one.

I see it as an HDR too forced with Photomatix

Leonardo...the "forced" look or the "surreal" look that you see was created with Topaz Adjust and not Photomatix.
I think this image is a bit marmite if you know what I mean :)

Perfect for me Mitch, like what you have achieved in Topaz Adjust. Use it myself. Some people have say negative things on 95% of their comments....I love Marmite.....

Over-processed. The forced effect makes the whites dingy(gray) and the kitchen look dirty.

For all of the HDR "purists" out there, this pic breaks that mode for sure. Let's keep in mind that no all HDR pics need to have that "Natural" process look. HDR can be an art form to itself. Great job Mitch. I would vote 12 if I could

@ inkslinger & flipd1: what reason is there to comment on the comments ...... the HDR can be done in 100 different ways but the vote on a photo will always be dependent on the personal taste of each

@Leonardo, I am under the impression that this is an open forum where we can comment on peoples pictures. Am I mistaken?? My comment was not directed at anyone particular person but rather to a an attitude of there is only one way to do HDR. Like you s

there are 100 ways to do HDR. So I am not sure what is wrong with my comment. I was trying to encourage Mitch to continue do be creative and branch out to do more stuff like this.

at times, myself included, we snap judgments and forget that the HDR is also expressive art and it is not clear which is the boundary between photography and retouching

"Which warns does not betray", a popular saying around here.
You notice that I would experience the over processing, this must be taken into account.
For me it resulted very well.

Each to their own then! I love the textures in this and the fact that you are showing 'the world' the results of your experiments. Great job.
