First shot with the Nikon D800. I was keen to see how it performed with big enlargements. This is a crop into the centre of a very large image and it seems to have coped with it well. Users of D700, D300 etc, will find the layout very familiar. It is the big sensor that makes all the difference. On the downside, I put in a 32MB memory card and on RAW setting it was telling me I had 399 pictures to take! Obviously, if you are taking HDR sets, you can run out of memory pretty quickly. Computer processing could also be a problem if you don't have a big memory. That said, it is a fantastic machine if used with a good FX lens.
PS No need to vote, I was just playing.

The pencil in the left front looks like a huge log, great detail! A little bright in the upper right wall. Agree on buying a D800 you also have to invest in your PC.

I have to wait 6 Months? Shoot Me Now! Amazing Karl. Can you imagine what this would have looked like if shot with a Nikkor Micro Lens? Favorite!

@Ed. Yes, this was taken with the 14-24mm so by no means ideal for this sort of thing. I just wanted to see what the crop would like like. Guess I'll have to get another lens....(he,he)

Firstly congratulations on the new camera.
Second, I like to see something different, and even more if this well composed and processed. Looks like a macro and not.

The 14-24mm must focus very close-up. The lens should serve you well for the type of landscape work you do. The other great wide angle for FX cameras is the 16mm nikkor Fisheye.

wonderful details Karl! LIKE!!! First of all I thought there might be a noise on the blue pencil, but then I realized the special surface and was even more impressed.

Hey Karl, by the way, did you have to invest in a 6 TB Hard Drive? I would think you would start to run out of space soon

What pleasant image. I think it could be just a bit darker and you could crop just a little off the top
