Another crop from a much larger image. I place the plants in a bright window and hung a white net behind them to diffuse the light. That's not noise in the petals; all the cells are showing up with the light passing through.

Sorry Karl, has more noise in the leaves.

Agree alban

My observation would be that the orchids are not white, petals are way to dark and they are a beautiful, perfect white in reality

Sorry, I'm a plant scientist. There are no leaves in the picture, only petals, and these are cells. Have a look at the net in the background (no noise). Either way, I respect your comments and votes.

@Adrianay, I was going for a different 'look' to the normal image of an orchid. I realised that not everyone would like it!

I don't hate it but orchids are so beautiful, the white is so perfect, I would not change that :). The middle of the flower is gorgeous! Very intense

Trust me people, that is not noise. Next to impossible with that camera. Karl I love what you did with the colors. I see this as more art. Great process.

I am sorry, for me it looked like noise.

Looks good to me!

The un-experienced one learned this trick in a book and have used it with single shots before I got involved. I like the soft.. translucent effect if for nothing more than a change of scenery.

involved in HDR. Backlighting through a porous material can give off some good eye candy on occasion. Just my opinion of course.

is not noise, but you have to judge the image

I like wide-angle images of plants. The new lens is serving you well in an unconventional way.

You know I love flower shots. This is a 10+. The lighting has captured the detail without effecting the delicacy. To me, a good flower image has to have certain amount of softness.

Agree with adrianay about the white on ochids petals.

THanks for all the comments. I thought this might divide people but I intend to keep on experimenting. I won't be posting for a little while I get to grips with my new camera...

I completely understand the look that you get with this process. adding "structure" brings out the natural depth of the cellular bond. It's a process I use often.

Perhaps the high definition camera juice against, the center is remarkable.
