This is a picture of the Cloisters in Salisbury Cathederal, the cathederal is over 750 years old the cloisters are the largest in the UK.

Tiffen do a filter package for photo shop with glimmer glass and halo filters in that give the type of effect you are after.

10 for effort but I think the smooth look will be misunderstood on this site as poor detail.HDR is usually about the detail and perfect pixels (no blowouts).Nicely done otherwise :-)

I think what you are looking for is a "bloom"effect which can be had without too much detail loss using software,or as Ron says,Tiffen(or other) filters.
