The Romans constructed numerous aqueducts to bring water to cities and industries. The city of Rome had the largest concentration of water pipeline with 11 aqueducts built over five centuries, with a total length of about 350 km. Only 47 km of these were built in the area, most were underground (the aqueduct, Eifel in Germany is a classic example). The longest Roman aqueduct built in what is considered the second century BC, through a pipeline for the supply of Carthage from 141 km.

Nicolle- it's an aquaduct, a raised river to bring water to a distant town. they were built with a slight downward tilt to get the water to flow to the city.
