This is the Bicheno Blow Hole in Tasmania. Every few minutes at high tide a massive wave comes in from the sea, enters an underground cavern and erupts above the rocks. I set myself up back from the rocks but couldn't predict when the wave would hit. In the end my wife stood close by and shouted to me when a wave had entered the cavern. This allowed me to get this shot. Also, my wife adds a sense of scale to the image.
I used a neutral density filter to soften the harsh sky and accentuate the water. I tonemapped the image in photomatix and added some contrast in PS.
