  • Notes These small crofts are dotted across the Highlands of Scotland. Most are now disused with just the original walls remaining. At one time crofting was a thriving industry in Scotland. Land workers, who were usually employed by a large estate, were granted the right to work a piece of their own land and grow crops to sustain their families. Several generations of Highlanders crofted as a way of living.
