This 1929 Minerva Type AM 7-passenger sedan sits on a massive 180 inch wheelbase and is one of the longest and largest automobiles in the world. The rear passenger area is five feet wide and eight feet long with comfortable seating for five. It carried a factory price of $16,000 which was a rather large fortune during that era. It was powered by a 363.3 cubic-inch six-cylinder engine that produced 100 horsepower. The car was some times compared to a Rolls Royce but with a cheaper price tag. In 1903, the Minerva Motors Company was formed by a Belgian named Sylvain de Jong. Production lasted until 1936 when the company was forced into bankruptcy, like so many other manufacturers of the time. Minerva, established in 1899 in Antwerp, introduced the AM model in 1928 featuring a straight six-cylinder sleeve valve motor with conical head displacing 5.965 liters and producing 100 horsepower and over 70 mph. The convertible sedan bodywork is by Murphy, famous for creating cars for royalty and movie stars. This car was ordered for Mrs. Campbell of the Campbell soup fortune.
