Opened in 1911 and built in Gothic Revival design, for many years the Woodward Avenue Presbyterian Church had a large and active Congregation. However with the migration of people from the city to the suburbs in the 60's, 70's and 80's the Church started to struggle as the Congregation became progressively smaller. The Church was sold to the Abyssinia Interdenominational Church in 1993 but for the past few years has been unused. This photo captures, I believe, the handsome Gothic architecture of one of the City of Detroit's most beautiful Churches. However if we look carefully we see signs of disuse and neglect. Note the metal doors across the original main red doors, barring entry to the church. Note also the broken central stained glass window, the chipped brickwork on the right upper tower, the mesh across the windows in the basement and the partially broken sign showing no current services. (History from Wikipedia and from Historic Detroit.org).

What a pity for the old church.. I hope that someone will archive your photo for future generations. Well done, by the way.
