The Central German area was dominated by the centuries-long extraction, refining and use of natural resource lignite. But in the early nineties came the end of this era-like collapse in the wake of reunification and therefore changing energy policy.
In a short period almost disappeared, the entire infrastructure of an industry. Now the landscape is dominated south and north of Leipzig increasingly arising from mining pits in lakes and the concept of Leipzig Neuseenland is to establish nationwide on the best way to be a new tourist destination. The memory of the time before the lakes begins to fade at the same rate.
This is the project of mining technology park. The park aims to create a place that provides an authentic look into the past and thus creates a bridge between the past, present and future. Starting point was the preservation of two large mining equipment from the former mining aspen grove in front of their already decided scrapping. This is the bucket 1547 (about 1,300 tons, built 1985) and the spreaders in 1115 (2,400 t, year 1986), which form the core of the park.
The two large equipment could be secured in cooperation with the LMBV and MIBRAG thanks to the initiative of committed members, founded in 2002 mining technology park eV, the support of local Grosspoesna, aspen grove and Markham, as well as the Free State of Saxony and the Regional Council of Leipzig .
The park's objective, authentic and understandable way a complete loading cycle in a lignite mine. It spans from the dismantling of the cultivated landscape to preparation of the apron and lowering of ground water on the extraction of overburden and coal, for transport to the tilting of the overburden and the subsequent rehabilitation and recovery of new spaces.
The park connects learning about and remembering the lignite mining with the function of tourist attraction and recreation. Issues such as energy production and consumption are also addressed. The young generation is invited to marvel at the size of the machinery and logistics, as well as the generation of the former miners can can be put in "old times" back. A special area in the park is reminiscent of home loss and the disappearance of entire villages.
The park also has an extensive collection of different work tools, clothing and mining equipment, such as a coal tailings train and parts of a conveyor system.
As a one-time, peer mediation and seeking local history alive the memory of a great era of Saxony's industrial history of mining technology park is a major contribution to the development of the Leipzig New Lakeland - www.leipzigerneuseenland.de - to make a culturally interesting and attractive tourist region and its contribute in part to help more attention to the industrial culture.
