Cumberland Gap Tennessee; the crossing point for those pioneers traveling from the eastern United States to the land of the midwest and the west coast. Over 300,000 people traveled for 12 weeks through the treacherous pass between the cuberland mountains. During the Civil war, the town changed hands 4 times from the Union to the Confederate armies and many battles were fought in the Gap. This road sign is in front of the Old Mill House that we stayed in this weekend. I have to assume that Welsh ancestry led to the naming of the streets.
