Snake photography is really not my department my man Im sure someone on here can advise you much better than me. Im sure it is a difficult thing to get absolutely right. The part in focus is stunning

It's a great capture, especially if it's a poisonous variety... The main problem for me is the background is very much in the same colour range as the subject, which then restricts definition. If you get this opportunity again & without risking getting a

bite try getting a lower POV & focus on the eye, set you camera to sports/quick fire & rattle of a dozen shots...As you say a tripod is not really an advantage here unless the snake has just found a warm sunny area & is trying to get it's body up to tempe
