A different view of (allegedly) Robin Hood's 'Major Oak' Tree. This view shows the form of the tree much better, and also includes some people (not allowed near the fenced tree) which (hopefully) helps give much more of a sense of the huge scale of this beautiful, splendorous, and sadly slowly dying, part of Nottingham's long history. (From the previous image): "'The Major Oak' is a huge old English oak tree in Edwinstowe in the heart of Sherwood Forest, Nottinghamshire, England. According to local folklore, it was Robin Hood's shelter where he and his men slept. It weighs an estimated 23 tons, has a girth of 33 feet (10 metres), and is approximately 800 to 1,000 years old. In a 2002 survey, it was voted “Britain’s favourite tree”. It's limbs have been supported by props and scaffolding since the Victorian times." *** BEST VIEWED AT FULL-SIZE ***
