The Fiat 500, popularly called "Mickey Mouse", is undoubtedly among the most famous Italian cars, although the events and circumstances that led to the design of this model are much less known. It all started from an idea of Benito Mussolini. In 1930, the Duce had called Senator of the Kingdom of Italy Giovanni Agnelli to inform him of the "absolute necessity" to motorize Italians with an economic car that did not exceed the cost of 5,000 lire. An idea of great impact that propaganda, not just elected Prime Minister, Hitler hastened to copy by calling Ferdinand Porsche and ordered him to carry out a car costing no more than 1,000 brands; what became known in Italy as the "Beetle".
