A4 Class steam locomotive 'Sir Nigel Gresley' (named after its designer and also the same class as 'Mallard' which holds the world record for the fastest steam loco) soon to depart Grosmont for Pickering on the preserved North Yorkshire Moors Railway. The 'Flying Scotsman' nameplate alludes to the Edinburgh to London service that LNER used to run. Confusingly there is also a named engine 'Flying Scotsman' (but not this one) which has recently been overhauled and will soon be running on main lines again.
Thanks for the story behind this beautiful picture, Simon!! I love it! I can just see Hercule Poirot standing on the platform waiting to board.
