These are some of the remnants of the cableway built by the British navy in Simon's Town, in the late 19th century. It operated efficiently, carrying people and goods of all kinds up the steep cliffs from the lower to the upper parts of the base. In 1927, it was taken out of service, due to an administrative error in London. Orders are orders, and not to be questioned!
