This is a flowery corner in the Royal Botanical Gardens in Melbourne, close to Government House. The buildings here are part of the gardens, which were founded in 1846. Curiously, Government House has little to do with government. It is the official residence of the Governor of Victoria – a largely ceremonial position but officially the British monarch's representative in the state. The governor's palace is certainly in pleasant surroundings, as it lies entirely within the Gardens.
