Catching the sunset at the desert view on the south rim of the Grand Canyon.

Steve, I've got a dilemma what image I like more B4 or after processing. The original one looks more 3D with the haze. The processed image is a very nice HDR but a bit bluish and flat. Very well done nonetheless. Great view.

looks a bit over cooked. R5 has a great dynamic range, I would have process this single raw without Photomatix, great capture steve

@dmitry I appreciate your comments, this was an exceptionally hazy shot. The more I removed the haze the greater the blue overtone. That late in the afternoon the shadows take on a blue tone anyway as it is reflected from the sky directly above. I removed about 75% of the blue as it was. I probably have a few versions with less flatness. I agree that sometimes compressing the tonality tends to flatten out an image. Probably could have decreased the saturation and just increased the contrast would have solved the problem. First edits aren’t the best usually. This one was a challenge, though, with all the haze.

@yogi that was the first time I used an R5. My regular camera was sent out for repairs and FedEx lost it in return. They did find it by the time I got back. I really liked the camera though. Bucket list now. On processing, I just merged all the shots in Adobe a camera raw as a dng. It was then processed with many layers and brushes in ACR and photoshop. I took that image into photomatix as a compressed image and processed it with the detail enhancer. I took that copy and recombined with the compressed image, added a layer mask, and brushed areas of the detail enhancer version, mostly in the shadow areas. The 0 value had noise in the shadows and blown highlights. A single image being processed by itself didn’t work because of the contrasts. Perhaps it is overcooked. Sometimes I don’t know when to stop processing.

@digicam thanks Ed. It was fun trying to draw something out of the haze.
