This is a large fire in the Helderberg Range. It reputedly started in some pines on Lourensford estate, on the other side of the mountains. The southeaster blew it up through the feinbos, over the top and down toward the Stellenbosch winelands. After 4 days the rains came and extinguished it. Nobody was hurt seriously, no farmland was devastated, and only two homes were destroyed.

@pedrevan I was there about 10 years ago, stayed in Gordon's Bay and went on down to Knysna and back through the mountains. Beautiful place, much like San Diego. Nice shot.

Thanks. I should have stopped to take one earlier, when all was dark and the orange monster snaked around the mountainside but .... busy going somewhere.
